Wow! The Prestigious Dutchess County Executive Arts Award
I am excited to announce that on October 2, 2024, I will be receiving a Special Citation from the Dutchess County Executive Arts Awards for my work on the “Who Is She?” project. This recognition means so much to me, not only because it acknowledges my art, but also because it shines a light on the women artists who have long been forgotten.
The “Who Is She?” series has been a labor of love, and I am deeply passionate about bringing the stories of these incredible women back into the spotlight. These artists, once famous and now overlooked, contributed significantly to art history but were often “erased” from the narrative. Through my project, I was able to research, write, and illustrate the stories of ten women whose artistic legacies deserved to be remembered.

The project culminated in a 20-page, full-color magazine and a YouTube presentation that sought to reignite interest in their works and contributions. This recognition by Arts Mid-Hudson and the Dutchess County Legislature reinforces the importance of remembering and celebrating these historically overlooked women. It also serves as an inspiration to current artists, encouraging them to see themselves as part of a continuing legacy that shapes the art world.
In the words of Bibiana H. Matheis, the creator of Inspiration Art Group International, “Tilly Strauss’ project is profoundly inspiring and validating, an act of paramount importance to set the record straight. We must not allow for significant women artists to be sidelined and forgotten when they deserve to take their rightfully earned place in art history.”
I’m truly humbled by this recognition and deeply thankful for the support of my colleagues, mentors, and especially the talented artists in the Inspiration Art Group International. This award is a powerful milestone on my journey, underscoring my commitment to continue advocating for these forgotten women and pursuing excellence in my own work.
Invitation to the Awards Ceremony
The award ceremony will take place at The Grandview in Poughkeepsie, NY, on October 2, 2024, and I’m honored to stand alongside other artists and advocates in the community who share a dedication to preserving and celebrating art history.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this project and beyond—this award belongs to all of us who believe in the importance of remembering and celebrating women’s contributions to art.
